As Israel returned to Jerusalem, God blessed them with lots of stuff. Ezra 1:9-10 gives us an inventory: 5400 articles, including silver and gold, goods, livestock, valuable gifts, and freewill offerings from the Persians. It looks like Cyrus had figured out that God is supreme ruler over their stuff. Have we figured it out? Where Are You Going?   Ezra 1:5
Today we are looking at what paths we are on and where they are taking us. We have learned that the choices that one generation make have impact for many generations to follow. Moving When God Wants Us to Move - Giving When God Wants Us to Give   Ezra 1:4
In todays verse, the NIV word 'living' may be better illustrated by the old KJV word 'sojourneth', which refers to passing though a land as strangers, travelers with a limited amount of say about what happens in the land. God is communicating something to His people in this word. In Eph 2, we are called 'no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens, drawn near to Him'. While in this land, we need to remember the intransient nature of our stay here. We need to be able to move immediately when God wants us to move and give immediately When God wants us to give. Its Gods money. He puts His money into the hands of the people who are serving Him. All the missions needs of our youth, and the local needs of the woman who desparately needs home repairs are being met through God's money flowing through God's people. Lets all flow in the spirit of the lyrics...'If by a small voice he calls, I'll answer my Lord - I'll go where you want me to go - I'll say what You want me to say - I'll be what You want me to be.

Why Does God Want a Temple?   Ezra 1:1-2
After God took the temple away for 70 years, He now was going to restore it to His people. Because its what the people needed - a way to come back to God to have fellowship restored. And just like in Ezra's day, there is no temple in Israel now. Do they still need one now? Paul tells us that we are the temple. God's Spirit indwells us.
You are the temple of the living God. We no longer need a physical building because God is within us!

Lots of names, dates, facts, etc. but we need to remember that ALL scripture is valuable to make us complete and equip us for every good work. Exra means The Yahweh the Lord helps. His name and his book teaches us to seek God and get the people and temple back from exile to their former glory. The history of Israel advances in this book from the rebuilding of the temple to the repair and rebuilding of the walls under Nehemiah's leadership.
